About Dr. Suraj Manjunath

• Dr. Suraj Manjunath is one of India’s most respected Surgical Oncologists, renowned for his pioneering contributions to minimally invasive gastrointestinal cancer surgery and comprehensive oncologic care.
• With more than 28 years of clinical excellence, he brings together advanced surgical skills, research expertise, and a compassionate, patient-centric approach.
• After completing his MBBS (1997) and MS (General Surgery, 2002) from Bangalore Medical College, Dr. Suraj pursued his MCh in Surgical Oncology from Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology (2006), where he earned the Gold Medal for his outstanding academic performance.
• He subsequently underwent advanced international training through prestigious fellowships:
• Dr. Suraj was also the first Indian recipient of the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) International Career Development Award, USA (2013), a distinction that recognises exceptional promise and contribution to cancer surgery.
• As an academic leader, Dr. Suraj founded and developed the Department of Surgical Oncology at St. John’s Medical College and Hospital, where he served as Professor and Head (2006-2017).
• He also established one of the first MCh Surgical Oncology training programs in a private medical institution in India and played a pivotal role in developing St. John’s Oncology Centre and the multidisciplinary tumour board.
• His mentorship has shaped numerous young oncologists and surgeons across the country.
• With a strong academic foundation, Dr. Suraj has authored more than 70 publications in national and international journals and several book chapters.
• His research and clinical work have been recognised globally for innovation in gastrointestinal oncology, breast oncoplasty, and enhanced recovery protocols.
• Dr. Suraj continues to serve as an examiner and convenor for MCh and DNB (Surgical Oncology) examinations across universities in India.
