About Dr. Bhaskar Vishwanathan

• Dr. Bhaskar Vishwanathan is a highly accomplished Radiation Oncologist with over 30 years of experience.
• He is recognized for his innovative approach to radiation oncology, incorporating advanced technologies such as AI-driven planning, high-precision adaptive radiotherapy, and robotic brachytherapy techniques.
• He completed his MD in Radiation Oncology from Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in 1997, followed by a Clinical Research Project at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai in 1998.
• His pursuit of advanced training led him to a Clinical Fellowship at Jurivinski Cancer Centre, Hamilton, Canada, where he gained international exposure in high-end cancer treatment protocols.
• Additionally, Dr. Vishwanathan underwent specialized academic courses in Genetic Engineering and Human Molecular Genetics at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, as well as research training at IVRI Bengaluru.
• In 2017, he attended an orientation program on Hyperthermia techniques for breast and cervical cancers at Erasmus MC, the Netherlands.
• Professionally, he began his teaching and clinical career as an Assistant Professor at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bengaluru (1998–2006).
• Dr. Vishwanathan later served as Associate Professor (2008–2012) and then as Professor (2012–2022) at Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Bengaluru, before moving to Amrita Hospital.
• He is credited with inventing robotic image-guided brachytherapy for hepatic tumors, with Phase I trials currently in progress.
• He also established a nanoparticle research laboratory with a ₹60 lakh-funded project, developing iron oxide and gadolinium nanoparticles for magnetic hyperthermia and cancer imaging applications.
• Dr. Vishwanathan’s work has positioned him as a national expert in cancer nanotechnology research, and he served on the PRSG committee of the Department of IT, BT & Electronics (DEITY), Government of India, overseeing cancer nanotechnology projects at IIT Mumbai.
