About Dr. Veena Kalra

Dr. Veena Kalra is a pioneering Pediatric Neurologist with over 36 years of extensive experience in pediatric and child neurology.
She is widely respected for her groundbreaking research in Indian childhood cirrhosis, neurocysticercosis, learning disabilities, epilepsies, neurometabolic and neurogenetic disorders, and lead poisoning.
She is an alumna of the University of Delhi (MBBS, 1969) and AIIMS, New Delhi (MD Pediatrics, 1973).
Dr. Kalra holds numerous prestigious fellowships, including FNAMS (Fellow, National Academy of Medical Sciences), FIAP (Fellow, Indian Academy of Pediatrics), and FNASC (Fellow, National Academy of Sciences, India).
During her tenure at AIIM, New Delhi, she was instrumental in establishing Pediatric Neurology as a recognized sub-specialty and played a critical role in launching India’s only DM (Doctorate in Medicine) program in Pediatric Neurology at AIIMS.
Dr. Kalra has been actively involved in public health-related research, including receiving the Sorell Katherine Research Award from Japan (JCN).
Her exceptional academic record includes 13 medals and awards during her MBBS and MD studies, as well as prestigious honors from three Hon’ble Presidents of India in recognition of her contributions to medicine and education.
She was most recently honored with the Swasth Bharat Samman by Zee TV and LIC for her work in pediatric healthcare.
Dr. Kalra is the Founder President of the Association of Child Neurology of India and has held prominent global leadership positions, including:
- President, Asian Oceanian Child Neurology Association (HQ Tokyo)
- Chairperson, Education Committee, International Child Neurology Association (HQ Brussels)
