About Dr. Sanjay Pandey

• Dr. Sanjay Pandey is a distinguished Neurologist with over 20 years of experience dedicated to advancing the understanding and management of Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders.
• He completed his MBBS from Grant Medical College, Mumbai, followed by an MD in Medicine from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi.
• His neurology residency at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, marked the beginning of his research career, where he focused on movement disorders in patients with Japanese encephalitis.
• As a young faculty member at GB Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (GIPMER), New Delhi, Dr. Pandey continued to make significant contributions to movement disorder research.
• In 2011, he was awarded the prestigious Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum Fellowship for advanced training in Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders at NINDS/NIH, USA, under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Hallett.
• During this fellowship, he completed several pioneering projects on essential tremor, post-traumatic shoulder movement, dopaminergic therapy modifications after DBS, kinetic device-based tremor and dyskinesia measurement, and writer’s cramp physiology.
• After returning to India, Dr. Pandey rejoined GIPMER, where he established a comprehensive center for Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders.
• Over the last decade, he has spearheaded numerous studies on postural deformities in Parkinson’s disease, dystonia subtypes, functional movement disorders, tremor in dystonia, and genetic aspects of movement disorders.
• He has also supervised the dissertations of over 30 neurology students pursuing DM courses, shaping the next generation of neurologists.
• Currently, Dr. Pandey also chairs a study group of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society, underscoring his role as a global thought leader in the field.
