• Dr. Chakrapani B.S. is a distinguished Interventional Cardiologist, widely respected for his vast clinical experience, innovative approach, and contributions to accessible cardiac care. Currently practising as a Consultant – Cardiology at Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road,
• He brings more than 40 years of dedicated service in coronary interventions, acute cardiac emergency management, and preventive cardiology.
• His medical journey began with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and MBBS from Mysore University, followed by a Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Internal Medicine from JJM Medical College, Davangere, under the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi.
• Dr. Chakrapani further pursued a DM in Cardiology and earned the prestigious MNAMS from the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College & General Hospital (LTMMC & LTMGH), Sion, Mumbai, a leading high-volume cardiac institute.
• He later underwent advanced training in Nuclear Cardiology at the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, and Senior Residency in Cardiology at Nizam’s Institute of Cardiology, Hyderabad, solidifying his foundation in both diagnostic and interventional cardiology.
• He has been a key figure in the evolution of cardiac interventions in India, being among the first cardiologists to introduce Primary Angioplasty for Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) in the country.
• Over his distinguished career, he has performed over 6000 invasive cardiac procedures, including coronary angiographies, angioplasties, pacemaker implantations, and complex cardiac interventions.
• In 2000, Dr. Chakrapani pioneered the innovative “ICCU on Wheels” project—a first-of-its-kind initiative in Karnataka that revolutionised pre-hospital cardiac emergency care.
• This mobile critical care unit was equipped with facilities such as pre-hospital thrombolysis, temporary pacemaker, ventilator, tele-electrocardiology, and pulse oximetry, bringing life-saving interventions directly to patients in semi-urban and rural areas.
• Conducted in collaboration with Manipal Heart Foundation and Rotary Midtown Bangalore, the project achieved a remarkably low 1% mortality rate and set a benchmark for mobile emergency cardiac services, later emulated in global models such as “H2H” (Home-to-Hospital) cardiac care.
• Dr. Chakrapani is an active member of several national and international medical societies.
• He is a Fellow of the Cardiological Society of India (FCSI) and a member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Indian Medical Association, and Association of Physicians of India.
