• Dr. A B Gopalamurugan is a distinguished interventional cardiologist and electrophysiologist with over 20 years of experience in advanced heart treatments that avoid open-heart surgery. 
• He has been recognized for pioneering multiple “first-in-India” and “first-in-the-world” cardiac procedures, particularly in the field of transcatheter valve therapy.
• After completing his undergraduate medical education in India, Dr. Gopalamurugan moved to the UK for postgraduate training. 
• Dr. Gopalamurugan undertook research at St. Thomas’s Hospital, London, funded by the British Heart Foundation, and was awarded an MD degree by the University of London in 2006. 
• His research focused on the role of potassium (K+) as an endothelial-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) in regulating vascular tone, utilizing complex in vivo techniques in healthy volunteers, including brachial artery cannulation and specific inhibitor infusions.
• He trained extensively as a cardiology specialist registrar across North London hospitals, gaining formal accreditation in interventional electrophysiology and device therapy.

• After 16 years in London, he returned to India and currently serves as a senior consultant interventional cardiologist in Chennai, South India, focusing on complex cardiac interventions, electrophysiology procedures, percutaneous valve therapies, and endovascular interventions.
• Dr. Gopalamurugan has performed 14 “first-in-India” and 4 “first-in-the-world” heart treatments, including pioneering transcatheter aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve replacements. 
• He is also the founder and course director of India’s largest transcatheter valve therapy training program, helping to educate the next generation of interventional cardiologists.
• Major treatments performed by him include Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), Multivessel Angioplasty + Laser Angioplasty, and Electrophysiology Study + Ablations (Heart Rhythm Disorders).
